1.TRANSPORTATION DEMAND MANAGEMENT - 2nd December 2009 UMTC made an active participation in capacity building.

GTZ jointly with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC), Centre for Environment Planning and Technology (CEPT), LTA Academy, Singapore, organised a 1-day training course/workshop on "Transportation Demand Management (TDM)" on the 02 December 2009 as a pre-event to the IUT/MoUD conference. The event was held at Dome, Ground Floor, The Ambassador Hotel, Sujan Singh Park (Near Khan Market), New Delhi.

Mr. S.K. Lohia, OSD (MRTS) and Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Urban Development opened the course along with Mr. B.I. Singhal, Director General of the Institute of Urban Transportation. More than 30 participants were present at the course. The participants were mainly municipal commissioners, urban planners, transport engineers, ngos and academicians. Various national and international experts from the partnering organisations brought forward their experiences in the form of discussions and presentations during this one-day event. The speakers include Dr. Jason Chang, Mr. O.P. Agarwal, Prof. Shivanand Swamy, Mr. Mohinder Singh, Dr. Hansjorg Berlepsch, and Mr. Manfred Breithaupt.

2. Urban Mobility Conference 2009
The Conference & Exhibition on Urban Mobility India - 2009 was held at the India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi from December 3rd - 5th 2009. The Urban Mobility Conference was sponsored by Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Govt. of India and organized by Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), India.
Urban Mass Transit Company Limited (UMTC) was amongst the Lead Sponsors and hosted the event and exhibition for the conference this year. The UMTC stall was put up at the conference for all 3 days.

With rapid urbanization, the Urban Transport scenario in India is fast warming up, with landmark Metro Rail projects having taken central stage across major cities. Significantly, besides Metro Rail, other modes of mass transit are also under various stages of planning and implementation. To disseminate knowledge on urban transport, MoUD decided to convene a conference cum expo every year as envisaged in the National Urban Transport Policy, 2006. The aim of the conference is to bring together policy makers, decision makers, planners, engineers, manufacturers and suppliers of various Technologies in road and rail based modes of mass transit and associated technologies such as ITS, for mutual interaction and benefit from each other&##39;s work/experience. This year, the conference theme was &##39;Sustainable Urban Transport&##39;.
